Sustainable PF and I got married about 15 months ago and we both really loved our wedding day. But it took lots of planning!!! Now I was not a woman who had planned out her whole wedding since childhood but I knew I wanted to get married in the fall and I had an idea of what I wanted my wedding dress to look like and thats it!!

As soon as Sustainable PF and I got engaged I started searching for the perfect wedding location. I was working up north at the time, so all of my sustainable wedding planning research was online. After a couple of weeks of searching I had not found a venue that met our needs.

I always knew that once I was married, I would wear a wedding band (which I have realized is not a given assumption these days). Sustainable PF felt the same way although we knew our bands would look quite different. Mine had to be quite slender since I have long skinny fingers and a thick band would have looked ridiculous. Sustainable PF on the other hand has what I would call normal sized man hands so required a band of a medium width.

As I described in an earlier post, the sustainable wedding venue for our wedding were stone buildings and beautiful gardens with lots of detail. So in terms of decorations, we did not need to go over the top and decorate every square inch of the place, the architecture itself was decorative. I did think a lot about whether to get flowers to decorate with and if so, where to purchase them from and at what cost.

As we mentioned previously we had several friends in our wedding party. They all played a big part in helping plan the day, pick-up items for us and of course be our support system on the big day. So we wanted to thank them. For the bridesmaids, I wanted to offer them a unique piece of jewelry that was locally made and had some symbols on it (and also matched their dresses in case they wanted to wear them on our wedding day).

Planning a wedding doesn't have to be expensive, and doesn't require 6 months to a year. You can have a beautiful wedding for a fraction of the cost.

This past weekend I was a groomsman in the wedding of my friends Jim and Heather. I have known Jim for 18 years and Heather for 17 years. I was happy to be a part of their big day. There are likely ways to be a groomsman in an extremely frugal way but that is not what i’m going to write about today.
